WEDI names Charles Stellar as president, CEO

Industry vet selected to lead the health information exchange group.

The Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange, an industry-sponsored health information technology advocacy group that also advises the Department of Health and Human Services, has named Charles Stellar as its new president and CEO.

The appointment, announced during WEDI’s annual conference, is not a surprise; Steller has served as interim CEO since January. Jean Narcisi, chair of the organization, in a statement said Seller served well during a transitional time and has demonstrated strategic leadership to move WEDI forward.

Stellar has substantial trade association executive experience, most recently as executive vice president of America’s Health Insurance Plans, from which he retired last September.

Other trade group positions include senior leadership at the American Managed Care and Review Association, American Association of Foundations for Medical Care, the American Association of the Professional Standard Review Organizations, and the American Association of Health Plans.

WEDI most recently published a report in cooperation with the Louis W. Sullivan Institute for Healthcare Innovation making the case for automated data exchange to support coordinated and value-based care, available here.
