With around 350 vendors expected to exhibit at the MGMA 2013 Annual Conference, Oct. 6-9 in San Diego, it’s a good bet than many will be hawking new data analytics products.

Count among them ADP AdvancedMD, which offers practice management and electronic health records software on a single database, as well as outsourced billing services. The company will be demonstrating its new AdvancedInsight analytics product with a focus on assessing the financial health of a practice. Commercially available in early 2014, the product at first will support analysis of the PPM system and later expand to the EHR to handle clinical analytics.

AdvancedInsight was developed in-house using Microsoft tools and is designed for the client to use. Built for smaller practices, it should be easy even for solo physicians to use, says Matt Barron, who leads project management of business intelligence and mobile applications at AdvancedMD. The company also will market analytics to the 400 billing firms it serves.

The product will enable practices to measure and compare revenue and collections, as well as measure the performance and productivity of the practice and individual physicians. It also enables analysis of visits and procedures with multiple variables, such as geography (what zip codes are bringing in the most business?). Practices, Barron says, also could conduct other queries to assess the health of the practice, such as which insurers are paying according to their contract, how many MRIs were conducted last month and how many of those had the correct procedure level coded, and trends for days in accounts receivable and denial rates, among other factors. Users also could compare their performance with peer practices.
