VA to Offer Online Consultations

The Department of Veterans Affairs will offer online clinician-patient consultations for behavioral health, oncology and perioperative care.


The Department of Veterans Affairs will offer online clinician-patient consultations for behavioral health, oncology and perioperative care.

The department will use the Online Care system of Boston-based American Well, marking the first time the vendor's technology will be used by a federal agency.

The online consultations can be done via two-way video, secure text chat and /or telephone. The scope of the contract was not disclosed, but the VA will start with providing behavioral health services through the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, and offering online oncology and perioperative services through the Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System using providers from the Omaha VA Medical Center.
