UNC Health Care Links with NC HIE

UNC Health Care facilities are the first in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area to go live on the North Carolina Health Information Exchange (NC HIE) integrated Direct Secure Messaging solution.
"Using DSM enables UNC Health Care and its facilities to comply with federal standards and communicate with a broader group of healthcare providers statewide in order to improve care for patients," the organization said. "The participating facilities include the University of North Carolina Hospitals, UNC Physicians Network, Rex Hospital and Chatham Hospital."
UNC Health Care also recently went live in the Triangle area on Epic; when interfaced with NC HIEs Direct Secure Messaging solution, the installation allows UNC physicians to share patient health data with North Carolina providers on any EHR system, not just other facilities using the Epic software.
Currently, 33 hospitals and more than 700 physician practices are participants of NC HIE.
