App Aids in Clinical Trials Billing

GE Healthcare in mid-December will introduce an application to ease the collection of clinical trials data for billing purposes.

The Patient Protocol Manager software is a new module of the Waukesha, Wis.-based vendor's Centricity Business core revenue cycle management system. It is designed to bridge the gap between clinical research and patient care billing, according to the company.

GE Healthcare developed the module with Cornell Medical College, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Yale Medical Group. The module enables the scheduling of appointments and activities within the Centricity Business system. Customer-built rules, integrated with the billing system, help determine financial responsibility for charges.

The module also includes a single data repository for clinical trial subjects, services and charges. More information is available at gehealthcare.com.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
