Medical transcription vendor Transcend Services Inc. has acquired Salar Inc., which sells electronic clinical documentation and charge capture software, for $11 million.

The acquisition is the sixth since January 2009 for Atlanta-based Transcend, but its first buy of an information technology company. Baltimore-based Salar, which generated $4 million in revenue and $1.2 million in operating income during 2010, brings new hospital clients and a new product line to Transcend.

Salar's products enable electronic inpatient clinical documentation that can generate an appropriate CPT code and integrate to an electronic health record, capture charges at the point of care and integrate to billing systems, enable inpatient coders to query physicians and get responses, and automate patient handoff lists.
