Content and data analytics vendor Thomson Reuters has acquired ProfSoft Inc., which sells data analytics software to health plans, for an undisclosed sum.

ProfSoft's applications enable the data mining and analysis of administrative data to enable health plans to assess hospital and physician performance, according to the firm. Data analytics software helps identify cost efficiencies, gaps in care and cost-effectiveness of therapies, among other factors.

The acquisition will enhance Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Thomson Reuters' clinical performance measurement services offered to health plans, says Jon Newpol, executive vice president. ProfSoft founder Ed Bassin and other managers will joint Thomson Reuters, which will retain ProfSoft offices in Needham, Mass., and Dayton, Ohio.
