The use of tablet devices among responding physicians exceeds 30 percent, with 19 percent using tablets in clinical settings. In total, 83 percent of respondents own at least one mobile device and 44 percent of those who don't intend to get one this year.
While a physician's age is a slight barrier to smart phone use, the survey found no age barrier to tablet adoption. The most common professional uses of mobile devices are to look up drug and treatment reference material, learn about new treatments and research, and search for information on diagnoses, treatment paths and educating patients.
More than 60 percent of responding smart phone users have an iPhone, according to a report of survey results. "For tablet users, the iPad is virtually alone; only a fraction of physicians report they use Android tablets."
