That kind of activity would nearly double ambulatory I.T. purchasing in 2011 compared with the previous year, the firm notes in a new report, 2011 U.S. Ambulatory Electronic Health Record and Practice Management Study. Consequently, CapSite projects a $3 billion market for ambulatory practice management and EHR systems through 2013. Half of the surveyed practices are independent and half are hospital-owned. Other findings include:
* 63 percent of responding practices expect to replace their current practice management system with an integrated PM/EHR.
* Allscripts and eClinicalWorks by far lead the "vendor mind share" when being considered for ambulatory EHR purchase by practices of one or two physicians. Leaders in other size categories are: (3-10) Allscripts and NextGen; (11-25) Allscripts, NextGen and eClinicalWorks; (26-100) Epic and Allscripts; and (101+) Epic by a wide margin.
The report is free to providers and $3,500 for others, available at capsite.com.
