Picis Inc. has introduced a Web-based dashboard application that highlights clinically relevant information for all patients in an intensive care unit.

The eView for Critical Care Manager application can color-code data outside set parameters. It also enables drilling down into the electronic health record, according to the Wakefield, Mass.-based vendor. The dashboard lists such information as the patient name, diagnosis, heart rate, temperature and blood oxygen levels. The application is available in English, French and Spanish versions.

Picis also has upgraded its core critical care and perioperative information systems with several enhancements. They include:

* A customizable rules-based decision support system that immediately notifies clinicians of changes in patients' conditions;

* Structured clinical documentation that enables clinicians to develop fully customizable templates for such functions as admissions, procedure notes and discharge summaries; and

* Automated pulling of microbiology results from laboratory systems.

More information is available at picis.com.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
