Practice Fusion is offering a guarantee that physicians using its free, advertiser-supported and vendor-hosted electronic health records software will qualify for Medicare meaningful use incentive payments under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The San Francisco-based vendor's guarantee is without conditions because it remotely hosts the software and can quickly release any updates to all users. Meeting meaningful use criteria will determine the fate of the company, says Ryan Howard, CEO at Practice Fusion. "The guarantee is backed by that."
Several vendors, including athenahealth, Source Medical and GE Healthcare, are offering conditional meaningful use guarantees. Conditions vary among the vendors, but include crediting monthly service or support payments for up to six months, or resolving problems within 90 days of written notification.
