Executives at pioneering organizations that have successfully adopted comprehensive electronic health records will offer timely advice at Health Data Management’s Health I.T. Stimulus Summit. The conference will be held Sept. 17-18 in Boston.

Two executives from University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dan Drawbaugh, CIO, and Dan Martich, M.D., chief medical officer, will share the important EHR lessons they’ve learned. Larry Garber, M.D., medical director of informatics at Fallon Clinic, Worchester, Mass., will join Phyllis Schuck, CIO at Pinehurst (N.C.) Surgical in a panel discussion about group practice EHR strategies.

A wide variety of other speakers will address such timely topics as: developing a “big bang” approach to adopting EHRs in a hurry, linking EHRs and personal health records and creating a hospital strategy for helping community physicians implement EHRs.

Under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, hospitals and physician group practices can qualify for extra payments from Medicare and Medicaid if they make meaningful use of qualifying electronic health records systems.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
