Data standards supporting patient safety and supply chain efficiencies are the focus of the 14th GS1 Global Standards Summit, scheduled for June 16-18 in Washington.

GS1 Healthcare, a standards development organization with its U.S. headquarters in Lawrenceville, N.J., sponsors the conference. The standards include:

* The Global Trade Item Number, which identifies medical devices at various packaging levels;

* The Global Location Number, which identifies any parties that have been in contact with a product, enabling tracking of a product from the manufacturer to the nursing station; and

* The Global Data Synchronization Network, which stores GTIN and GLN data to enable users to access product information including changes and updates.

Conference speakers include representatives from government agencies, regulatory bodies, industry associations, group purchasing organizations, hospitals, manufacturers, distributors and retailers.

More information on the conference is available at www.gs1.org/healthcare/news_events/160609/.
