The goal is to help dentists support the “Five A’s” of tobacco cessation guidelines from the U.S. Public Health Service--Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist and Arrange. Studies by Aetna and other organizations show that many dentists ask and advise, but inadequately address the remaining guidelines, according to the insurer.
Aetna and Columbia will evaluate methods to assess dentist office workflow integration and practice preferences that the software would support, then conduct pilot tests in five general dental practices in the New York City region.
More information on the Five A’s is available here.
