Consultancy KPMG recently hosted a Web seminar on Stage 1 and 2 electronic health records meaningful use requirements and polled participating hospital and delivery system business administrators on their organizational readiness.

About 250 participants responded to the poll, with 71percent saying their organization was more than 50 percent complete with EHR adoptions. Forty-eight percent expressed confidence in their organization’s readiness to meet Stage 1 criteria, 39 percent were somewhat confident, 3 percent had no confidence and about 10 percent didn’t know the level of readiness.

Major challenges to Stage 1 compliance included understanding the requirements (25 percent), training and change management (20 percent), capturing electronic data as part of clinical workflows (18 percent), lack of a dedicated meaningful use team (12 percent) and not having appropriate certified technology (6 percent).
