ValleyCare Health System in Pleasanton, Calif., is using vein authentication technology as part of its new patient registration and identification system. ValleyCare has two campuses with a total of 212 inpatient beds.
The PalmSecure technology, from Fujitsu Computer Products of America Inc., Sunnyvale, Calif., uses near-infrared light to capture a patients palm vein pattern. That generates a biometric template that is matched against a database of enrolled users palm vein patterns. The technology helps ensure clinicians access the appropriate electronic records from its hospital information system from Siemens Healthcare, Malvern, Pa.
