AHIMA Hosts Identity Theft Session

The American Health Information Management Association will host a virtual meeting on medical identity theft 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. CDT on Sept. 8.

Speakers at the Web-based meeting, which will use streaming video, will address the differences between identity theft and medical identity theft and offer insights on steps to take to address gaps in data security. They’ll also outline a mitigation process to use if a theft occurs as well as steps to take to support victims of theft.

Featured speakers are: Chris Apgar, president of Apgar & Associates, LLC, a Portland, Ore.-based data security consulting firm; and Jennifer O’Brien, a Minneapolis-based attorney. Moderator is Susan Hanson, a consultant with TerraStar Consulting, Saunderstown, R.I.

The attendance fee for the online event is $255, $180 for AHIMA members.
