Security challenges headline pre-conference workshop
HIMSS Cybersecurity Forum to discuss ways providers can defend themselves.
The HIMSS17 conference doesn’t officially start until Monday, February 20, but a number of deep-dive special issue educational forums are on tap for Sunday.
That includes the Cybersecurity Forum, at which speakers will focus on lessons learned so far as the cyberthreat continues, and what lies ahead.
Karl West, chief information security officer and associate vice president of information systems at Intermountain Healthcare, will kick off the forum with an opening keynote on strategies to successfully defend and protect a healthcare organization’s information networks. Among other issues, he’ll walk through getting senior management support for a robust cybersecurity strategy.
Daniel Nigrin, MD, chief information officer in the division of endocrinology at Boston Children’s Hospital, then will explain how the organization survived a cyberattack by Anonymous. He will lay out what a hacktivist attack is, hallmarks of the attack demands from the hospital’s attackers, how hospitals become a target and how to work with law enforcement.
Ron Mohring, vice president of technology and security at Texas Health Resources, will illustrate how to plan and test a cyber strategy with best and worst-case scenarios, and explain the hallmarks of sophisticated vs. non-sophisticated attackers.
Four speakers will handle the next session on building an integrated security function for the enterprise. They include Ram Ramadoss, vice president of privacy and information security at Catholic Health Initiatives; Heather Roszkowski, network CISO at University of Vermont Health Network; Steve Fox, an attorney and principal at the law firm Post & Schell; and Timothy Torres, CISO in the Valley Area of Sutter Health.
