Saint Francis Healthcare adds Carestream radiology tools

A Missouri-based integrated delivery system recently went live on a suite of imaging technology from Carestream.

Saint Francis Healthcare System selected a package of technology that includes the vendor’s Clinical Collaboration Platform, Vue PACS, Vue Archive, Vue Motion enterprise viewer and the Vue patient portal.

The organization, based in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and serving 700,000 people in a five-state region, also will add cardiology tools that support viewing of vascular ultrasound and echocardiogram exams.

“We appreciate the ease of use that Carestream’s radiology workstations offer,” says David Forsythe, assistant manager IT and clinical applications at the delivery system’s 306-bed hospital.

The Vue Radiology PACS integrated smoothly with the Epic electronic health record and radiology information system. The Vue enterprise viewer also is integrated with Epic’s EHR and RIS, expediting physicians’ access to patient imaging studies, he adds.

“Having a zero-footprint viewer is a major advantage, and physicians have praised its ease of use,” Forsythe explains. “They began reviewing studies on it immediately and use it during patient consultations. Rapid access to radiology reports and key images can help referring physicians enhance and expedite treatment decisions.”

Other new contracts and go-lives reported during the past week include:
  • Signature Healthcare, Louisville, Ky., has signed to implement the Expanse electronic health record from Meditech across acute care and ambulatory settings. Operating in 10 states with more than 150 physicians in 18 locations, organization executives say they view improved integration and return on investment as primary reasons for its selection. Patient registries will help care teams examine groups of patients to determine appropriate care, all from one screen. Signature Healthcare also saw great value in having a single electronic health record across the enterprise, says CIO Gerald Greeley.
  • Acuity Healthcare in Wall Township, New Jersey, operating 11 long-term care hospitals, has selected an enterprisewide health IT platform from HCS Interactant to support electronic health records and business operations. The provider is familiar with HCS because it already uses the vendor’s long-term care data software that automatically collects and submits quality data for reporting purposes. “The transition to electronic record-keeping will standardize our operations and establish best practices to increase compliance and overall performance,” explains Rick Cassady, executive vice president and chief financial officer.
  • Jefferson Health, a 14-hospital system serving Philadelphia and New Jersey and with more than $5 billion in revenue, has selected a post-acute and transitional care software platform from Prepared Health. The platform will enable hospitals to connect, collaborate and react in real time with the multiple providers involved in patient care post-discharge. The goal is to reduce readmissions, uncompensated care caused by unnecessary ER utilization and streamline patient transitions.
  • Elderwood, which operates adult home facilities in Western New York, is an early adopter of a new mobile app from PointClickCare that tracks and manages the delivery and documentation of care services, medications and billing. “PointClickCare actively considered our feedback during the development process, and as a result, the interface and features have been shaped by clinical and resident care needs,” says Karen Camacho, director of information analytics at Elderwood.
