Patient Safety Technologies, which sells an information system to track bar-coded surgical sponges and towels, has named David Bruce as president and CEO.

Bruce succeeds Bill Adams, who will remain involved with the Temecula, Calif.-based vendor as a consultant. Bruce most recently served as CEO at EP MedSystems Inc., a developer of electrophysiology devices that St. Jude Medical recently acquired.

He previously served as general manager of the intracardiac echo group at Siemens Medical Solutions, now Siemens Healthcare. Patient Safety Technologies sells the Safety-Sponge System through its SurgiCount Medical subsidiary. More information is available at surgicountmedical.com.
