The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives has named veteran CIO Russell Branzell as president and CEO. He succeeds Richard Correll, who will serve as COO, responsible for daily operations.

CHIME announced in November 2012 a search for a new leader. Correll at the time said as the organization has grown, so has its operational functions and more time needed to be focused in that area. The board also determined that the time had come for a CIO to prominently lead the organization on a full-time basis and act as an ambassador to the industry.

Branzell currently is CEO of Colorado Health Medical Group, the TK of University of Colorado Health. He previously was CIO at Poudre Valley Health System in Colorado, and president and CEO of its Innovation Enterprises for-profit information services division. He also served as regional deputy CIO and executive director of information services at Sisters of Mercy Health System in St. Louis.

Branzell has been a CHIME member for more than 15 years, served on the board from 2004 to 2008, and is a faculty member for the CIO Boot Camp. He starts his new role on April 15.
