Trapeze Networks, a vendor of asset tracking and management software using radio frequency identification technology, now enables the monitoring of temperature fluctuations in medical refrigeration and freezer units.

The Pleasanton, Calif.-based vendor uses RFID tags with built-in temperature sensors. They enable automated real-time logging of temperatures and alerting of clinical staff such as nurses and pharmacy personnel if a unit's temperature goes out of an acceptable range. The system uses a hospital's existing wireless network.

Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma, La., is an early adopter of the technology. The vendor's Condition Monitoring software license starts at $14,995 for managing up to 50 tracked assets. More information is available at trapezenetworks.com.
