Athenahealth Gets RediClinic Deal

Physician billing and software vendor athenahealth Inc. is picking up more business in the retail clinic market.

The Watertown, Mass.-based company already provides remotely hosted practice management software and outsourced billing to the MinuteClinic chain of CVS Caremark, Woonsocket, R.I.

Now, Houston-based RediClinic LLC will use athenahealth’s practice management application and billing services in its clinics, which eventually will include about half of Wal-Mart Stores’ planned 400 in-store clinics.

RediClinic presently has clinics in 20 H-E-B stores in Houston and Austin, Texas. It also has a presence in 15 Wal-Marts in Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma and Virginia. The clinics in the H-E-B stores will use athenahealth’s remotely hosted electronic medical records software.

Wal-Mart has selected eClinicalWorks Inc., Westborough, Mass., as the EHR vendor for its retail clinics. MinuteClinic uses a homegrown EHR.
