GE Healthcare has introduced a computed tomography scanner designed for cardiac disease and drug development researchers.
The eXplore CT 120 scanner has 100 times the output of previous GE laboratory research imaging systems, according to the Waukesha, Wis.-based vendor. For instance, it supports X-ray exposures fast and detailed enough to capture the motion of a beating mouse heart at 600 beats per minute, or other small animals commonly used in research.
The scanner is designed to visualize, quantify and characterize anatomical parameters in small animals, according to the vendor. Improved filtering of the X-ray beam also reduces the dose to the animal and cuts scanning time.
