A new report from market research firm Kalorama Information estimates the worldwide market for medical mobile applications hit $84.1 million in 2010, more than double the $41 million market of 2009.

Medical applications in 2009 comprised about 1.5 percent of the total mobile application market, according to the New York-based firm. In the United States, 35-40 percent of physicians used a PDA or smartphone in 2008 and that number topped 50 percent using such devices on a regular daily basis in 2010.
