Ten of the top 13 most considered data analytics vendors in health care purchases are industry-agnostic, rather than companies that focus on the industry, according to a new report from vendor research firm KLAS Enterprises.

These industry-agnostic applications are configurable and complex enough to warrant getting consultant help in implementing, contends Lorin Bird, who authored the report and serves as research director at Orem, Utah-based KLAS. For instance, clients of IBM Corp. that used consultants to implement the Cognos business intelligence system gave the system considerably higher satisfaction scores than those who did the deployment themselves.

KLAS interviewed 180 provider executives for the report. Sixty-nine percent of respondents expect business intelligence applications will play a major role in achieving meaningful use of electronic health records.

Top-ranked enterprise business intelligence vendors in the report, in order, were Dimensional Insight, Information Builders and McKesson Corp. Other vendors in the report include Cerner, Epic, IBM, Lawson, Microsoft, Oracle, Precision.BI, SAP, SAS and Siemens.
