An agency of the Department of Health and Human Services is seeking public comment on issues related to state insurance exchanges, mandated under the health reform law to be Web-based, one-stop shops for consumers to compare and purchase health insurance coverage.

HHS' Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight is inviting public input in advance of rulemaking and grant solicitations, the agency said in a request for comments being published in the Federal Register on Aug. 3. It is available now at ofr.gov/inspection.aspx.

The agency is seeking views on a number of issues related to insurance exchanges, including factors that states will consider when determining whether to build an insurance exchange or use an alternate federal solution; implementation timeframes; and aspects of exchanges that should be uniform across the states.
