Carestream Health Inc., Rochester, N.Y., soon will begin beta testing a wireless digital imaging system.
The company will apply in the third quarter for approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market the DRX-1 system. It anticipates marketing the technology in the United States and elsewhere early next year.
The DRX-1 system features wireless communications between the imaging components and a console. The console processes and displays the images, forwarding the study to an image and information management system.
Carestream says the system will cost about $125,000. This is lower than the
total cost for other digital imaging systems, the company says, because
installing the DRX-1 technology does not require the renovation of X-ray rooms.
