Irvine, Calif.-based Quality Systems is best known for its NextGen Healthcare Information Systems physician practice management and electronic health records software. The company in 2009 and early 2010 entered the inpatient arena, buying Sphere Health Systems Inc., which sells clinical information systems to community hospitals; and Opus Healthcare Solutions, which sells financial/administrative systems to community hospitals. QSI folded the systems into NextGen as its new Inpatient Solutions unit.

Now, New Braunfels, Texas-based CQI Solutions will become part of the inpatient unit. Its patient scheduling and surgical information systems will be sold independently and as part of an integrated suite with the inpatient clinical and financial systems.
