New Chief at Elsevier

Medical reference publisher Elsevier Health Sciences, Philadelphia, has announced the appointment of Michael Hansen as CEO, effective June 9.

He will succeed Brian Nairn, who is retiring as CEO but will remain with the company during a transition period. Hansen most recently served as CEO of Harcourt Assessement Inc., a San Antonio-based publisher of testing materials. Harcourt was part of the Elsevier family of companies before Pearson plc acquired it in January.

Hansen previously served as an executive vice president at the Bertelsmann publishing firm and as a partner at The Boston Consulting Group in New York.
