The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center will implement copiers, printers and related hardware across its 19-hospital delivery system under a seven-year, $70 million contract with Xerox Corp., Rochester, N.Y.

Xerox will consolidate the delivery system’s existing 11,500 copiers, printers and related devices to approximately 3,000, based on use patterns. Fewer devices also will improve information security. New security features will include on-demand or automatic electronic “shredding” of information stored on a device’s hard drive upon completion of a project.
