Ochsner to Use Carefx Portal

Ochsner Health System will use Web portal technology from Carefx Corp., Scottsdale, Ariz., to provide 15,000 users, including 1,500 physicians, with access to clinical data from multiple databases. The New Orleans-based system has seven hospitals and 33 clinics throughout southeast Louisiana.

The Carefx Fusion application will provide clinicians with access to Ochsner’s self-developed electronic records system as well as applications from Siemens Healthcare, McKesson Corp., Agfa-Gevaert Group and Medical Information Technologies Inc., according to Lynn Witherspoon, Ochsner CIO.

“Carefx’s technology furthers Ochsner’s goal of improving clinical care and efficiency in the post-Katrina era,” says Witherspoon. “With the ability to access all of a patient’s information, anytime, from across the Ochsner system, physicians can improve their medical decision-making and obtain a more complete picture of their patients’ health.”

Carefx also provides portal services to the Louisiana Rural Health Information Exchange, which links 24 northern Louisiana hospitals with Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport.
