Cambridge, Mass.-based NaviMedix has added new functions to its NaviNet provider communications portal. Payers using the technology can choose to add one or all of the new functions to their service.

The new functions include:

*Clinical alerts and reminders, which includes real-time delivery of care gap analysis, personal health records or pay-for-performance data;
*Financial messaging;
*A customized home page for physicians that includes a news section; and
*Administrative messaging.

Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna Inc. plans to use the vendor's Clinical Alerts and Reminders functionality to deliver physicians evidence-based decision support and patient history via the portal. The payer previously sent such communications by fax or mail.

Additionally, this summer, Aetna plans to enable physician to view electronic summaries of their members' PHRs via the portal.
