Indianapolis-based health insurer WellPoint Inc. has enabled its provider locator tool to run on mobile phones and PDAs.
The application, which enables members to search in-network providers by address, city, state, ZIP code or name, has been redesigned to function on the smaller screens of those devices. It also offers physician's phone numbers and addresses, as well as driving directions to their facilities. The provider locator tool formerly was available only on the insurers Web site.
WellPoint recently enabled several of its other member services to run on mobile devices, including applications for drug costs and surgical procedure costs. The mobile provider finder application now is available to its health plan members in Connecticut, Maine and New Hampshire.
WellPoint, which runs Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in 14 states, plans to expand the mobile service to its other markets later this year. For more information, go to wellpoint.com.
