Physician and patient education and engagement technology developer PatientPoint, Cincinnati, has signed a distribution agreement with urology health IT developer Healthtronics IT Solutions, Austin, Texas, to deliver urology-specific population health management tools to Healthtronics customers.

The companies say the product is expected to be released to market in the second quarter of 2014 and will be sold to the Healthtronics network of independent urologists. The solution will combine patient portal and electronic check-in capabilities to facilitate real-time secure messaging of clinical information and streamline communication between patients and providers.

“The majority of the population health movement has focused on primary care, but it will be moving into the specialty arena in the very near future,” Raj Toleti, PatientPoint chief technology officer, said in an announcement of the agreement. “The immediate needs of specialty physicians are more tactical in nature such as improving efficiencies in check-in, increasing collections through bill pay and point-of-care collections, and driving Stage 2 meaningful use compliance. Our partnership with HealthTronics delivers on those tactical needs, but also equips specialty practices with the communication and education tools to support increased adherence to medications and care plans. That will ultimately improve quality and patient safety.”

The companies also say the relationship will also enable them to improve the delivery of the proper specialized therapeutic offerings as well as the participation of patients in clinical trial programs.
