Bethesda, Md.-based GetWellNetwork Inc., a vendor of interactive patient services, now offers multimedia videos on hand hygiene and safety. The vendor's PatientLife System also enables nurses to document that patients watched and understood the video information.
The new capability was designed to help hospitals and patients decrease concerns about and the spread of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a strain of a staph infection that's resistant to antibiotics, vendor executives say. After watching the video on the television in their room, patients can use a wireless keyboard, touchscreen or handheld device to answer a series of comprehension questions.
The GetWellNetwork application stores a record of which patients watched the videos and their score on the comprehension test. Hospitals then can integrate the system with their nursing documentation applications to enable the data to be placed in a patient's record. Nurses also can print the information from the GetWellNetwork application to place in a patient's paper chart.
Wilmington, Del.-based Christiana Care Health System already enabled 70% of its patients to watch the informational videos via the GetWellNetwork. For more information, go to getwellnetwork.com.
