Ruben Rodriguez faces up to 12 years in prison when sentenced on Sept. 20. The judge in the case rejected a guilty plea from Rodriguez's wife, Maria Victoria Suarez, saying the plea deal to serve up to five years is too light. She goes on trial in November.
Rodriguez admitted giving attorneys records of patients injured in accidents and attacks and receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars when lawsuits were settled, according to the Herald. Rodriguez and Suarez paid a Jackson Hospital employee, now serving a 10-month sentence, for the records.
