Revenue cycle management vendor Passport Health Communications has acquired enterprise scheduling software firm STAT Technologies for an undisclosed sum.

Franklin, Tenn.-based Passport operates a claims clearinghouse offering a variety of transactions processing capabilities, with a specialty in insurance eligibility verification. The company also offers patient demographics verification, orders management, patient payment, and physician/patient Web portal products.

The pick-up of scheduling software covering inpatient, outpatient and surgical areas will enable hospital clients of Passport to begin revenue cycle functions at the point an order is received from a physician office, says CEO Scott MacKenzie in a statement. “There is a current need to allow physicians to easily schedule a patient into a hospital and have the hospital quickly triage the patient order for proper coverage and payment responsibilities. Different systems between the physician and hospital prevent this from occurring. We hope to bridge that gap.”

Passport will continue to integrate other scheduling products with its services. The company also expects more acquisition activity this year.
