Community Health Systems will outsource transcription services and implement related information technologies across its 118 owned, operated or leased hospitals.
The Brentwood, Tenn.-based hospital chain will use the services and software of Spheris, Franklin, Tenn. In standardizing with Spheris, Community Health Systems also has made a minority equity investment in the vendor and will have two seats on its board. Terms of the giant contract, which will roll out over the next three years, were not disclosed.
Technologies the hospitals will use from Spheris include dictation devices and health information management applications. Technologies will vary depending on each hospitals needs. Spheris also will integrate with electronic health records systems to import transcribed documents.
