Northern Ohio delivery systems Cleveland Clinic and MetroHealth have implemented the CareEverywhere technology of Epic Systems Corp. to enable the sharing of patient data between both organizations' Epic electronic health records applications.

In a pilot project that started in October, the organizations' emergency departments have shared data on about 200 patients. Now, they will expand data exchange to inpatient, outpatient and specialty care settings.

Other providers in the region using Epic EHRs will be invited to participate. Across the nation, the CareEverywhere network comprises about 240 hospitals and 2,000 clinics, according to the vendor.
