The Ohio Health Information Partnership, a regional extension center serving parts of the state, has selected five preferred vendors of ambulatory electronic health records software.

The vendors have agreed to preferred pricing, and specific financing, training, staffing, service, support and technical performance terms pre-negotiated with the REC. Vendors also "must make commercially reasonable efforts to use personnel predominantly located in Ohio for implementation and support," according to the terms.

The selected vendors are Allscripts, eClincialWorks, e-MDs, NextGen and Sage Healthcare.

Ohio Health Information Partnership serves all of state outside the greater Cincinnati area and received federal funds to serve 6,000 small, rural or safety net primary care providers to achieve meaningful use. On its Web site, OHIP has a counter showing how many remaining slots are open for physicians to receive REC services--5,847 as of Nov. 17. More information is available at OHIPonline.org.
