CDC Helps Employers Fight Obesity

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has launched a Web site to help employers develop obesity prevention programs.

The site, called LEANWorks!, was developed for small- and mid-sized companies with limited resources to develop prevention programs. But the site's tools and resources can benefit companies of any size, according to CDC.

Resources on the site include an obesity cost calculator to estimate annual related medical costs for a company, materials to help build obesity prevention programs, and ways to estimate a return on investment for such programs.

The site was developed in direct response to requests of businesses for help in addressing obesity, according to CDC. More information is available at cdc.gov/leanworks.

A major success factor for accountable care organizations will be linking caregivers across the spectrum of care delivery. If history is any indication, that's going to be an industrywide struggle.
