Northern Illinois Gets an HIE

Centegra Health System, serving northern Illinois with hospitals in McHenry and Woodstock, will create a health information exchange with community physicians.

Centegra Health System, serving northern Illinois with hospitals in McHenry and Woodstock, will create a health information exchange with community physicians.

The delivery system also will offer electronic health records software to physicians not yet using the technology. Centegra will implement the Elysium Exchange HIE platform software of Axolotl Corp., San Jose, Calif., which includes the CCHIT-certified Elysium 9 ambulatory EHR.

Elysium 9 is a "Lite" EHR without the charting, documentation and full functionality of a comprehensive application. Its functions include clinical messaging, inbox and workflow management, clinical decision support, referral and consultation report delivery, electronic prescribing with decision support, electronic signature, encounter recording, and patient summaries aggregated from data from other HIE users.

The HIE, called the Centegra Physician Network, will integrate with other EHRs being used in the region. Interfacing with NextGen applications already is underway. Creating the network will take the technology burden off physicians so they can focus on providing care, says Michael Eesley, president and CEO at Centegra Health System.

In addition to the two hospitals, the delivery system includes immediate and primary care centers, fitness centers and a cancer center.
