NextGen Healthcare Information Systems and Microsoft Corp. have developed a medication management mobile app for consumers, designed for the Windows 8 platform and Windows RT tablets.

The app, called MedicineCabinet, is free here at the Microsoft app store. It enables consumers to create and update a list of medications that includes dosing and schedule instructions. A user receives notification when it’s time to take a medication and enter an acknowledgement that the medication has been taken.

Information in the MedicineCabinet can be shared with physicians to improve adherence, identify inappropriate medications or potential interactions, and provide information to other providers during care transitions.

The app has an age rating of 12 years and older, and 23 ratings on the app page give it an average of three out of five stars.
