New Decision Support for Ventilation

Philips Healthcare has introduced clinical decision support for treatment of mechanically ventilated adult patients.

The goal of VentAssist is to provide clinicians with more information to disconnect patients from ventilation as soon as possible, reducing the risk of associated pneumonia, according to the Andover, Mass.-based vendor.

The application provides guidance for ventilation within established guidelines by suggesting changes to ventilator settings that may improve the patient's profile. Testing found physicians in agreement with the guidance about 91 percent of the time, Philips says.
