Nationwide Pancreatic Disease Registry in the Works

The National Pancreas Foundation is building the first-ever national patient registry devoted to all pancreatic diseases, including pancreatic cancer and pancreatitis.

“The NPF registry will be an incredible tool that captures both patient and physician entered data,” stated Douglas Pleskow, M.D., co-director of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. “Nothing else like this exists and it will be of great benefit for patients and physicians.”

The NPF is partner on the registry with Salt Lake City-based Remedy Informatics, a software vendor for registry-based oncology. Remedy has developed a pancreatic cancer-focused registry that will serve as the basis for this project. All of Remedy’s products are built on its flagship Mosaic Platform, which Remedy says delivers registries designed to evolve with an organization’s changing research needs without intervention from IT departments or outside technology consultants.

“The greatest benefit will come from the relative ease and speed at which the foundation and its researchers will be able to recognize patterns in the data they collect,” said Gary Kennedy, CEO of Remedy Informatics. “The ability to then analyze, visualize and query the data through the Mosaic Platform will be extremely valuable, which will allow them to fulfill their mission and focus on better care and outcomes for patients suffering from pancreatic diseases.”
