Success would enable physicians without PACS to have the technology via the software-as-a-service model, "to allow any Internet Web browser to function as a medical imaging workstation without the need to install client software," according to the organizations.
The work, funded with a $2.25 million National Institutes of Health grant, will develop prototype PACS capability for the NHIN based on Heart IT's WebPAX medical image management technology. More information is available at heartit.com.
