Medical transcription services and software vendor MedQuist Holdings Inc. has changed its name to M*Modal, the name of the speech recognition and natural language processing firm it acquired in August 2011.

M*Modal also has named Amy Dellamora Amick as COO, succeeding Michael Clark , who becomes executive vice president of global sales. Amick most recently served as general manager of worldwide services for Microsoft’s health solutions group, and previously was a senior vice president at Allscripts.

The name change reflects the unification of the company’s services, which also include coding, data analytics and health information management professional services. The acquired M*Modal technologies enable the capturing and pulling of structured data from dictation and placement in an electronic health record, with the data also available for analysis.

M*Modal’s stock ticker symbol on the NASDAQ market will change to MODL on Jan. 25.
