Mediware Expands to Chemotherapy via an Acquisition

Ancillary software vendor Mediware Information Systems will acquire the Cyto Management System, which is chemotherapy management software, from Cobbler ICT Services BT, based in The Netherlands.

The $2.2 million acquisition is expected to close in mid-April. Mediware will continue to market the software through existing European distribution agreements and immediately expand to the United Kingdom and Ireland markets.

Mediware has been evaluating oncology software for 18 months for both the U.S. and European markets. The company initially will focus marketing efforts outside the United States but will consider expansion to the U.S. if there is client demand, according to a spokesperson.

Mediware sells medication, blood bank and home health management software, but has recently been expanding its portfolio. In January 2012, it acquired Transtem LLC, which sells software to manage the collection and transplantation of adult stem cells.
