Hospital ancillary software vendor Mediware has made its third acquisition of 2012, picking up blood management consultancy Strategic Healthcare Group for an undisclosed sum.

Mediware is a veteran vendor of medication, blood bank and home health management software. It recently expanded into oncology by buying the Cyto Management System to manage chemotherapy, and bought Transtem which sells software to manage the collection and transplantation of adult stem cells.

Now, Mediware is bringing in consulting services for its 500 blood management clients in hospitals and blood banks. Indianapolis-based Strategic Healthcare Group provides education and comparative data analytics services to help organizations improve blood utilization, establish evidence-based transfusion guidelines and clinical best practices. The consultancy’s BloodStat analytics technology includes benchmark data from more than 8 million patient encounters from hospitals that have established blood management programs, according to the companies.

Strategic Healthcare Group will continue to operate under its name and the companies expect the deal to close within 60 days. More information is available at bloodmanagement.com. Mediware now has made 10 acquisitions since 2007.
